Thomas Davies, Cal Poly’s director of choral activities and vocal studies, is among the guest conductors selected to lead the San Luis Obispo Symphony during its upcoming season.
On Friday, the symphony named the six conductors who will take the podium for the Classics in the Cohan concert series, which kicks off Oct. 3 at the Performing Arts Center in San Luis Obispo, and a New Year’s Eve Pops concert.
They include Nir Kabaretti, James Sedares, Lawrence Loh, Laura Jackson and Bruce Anthony Kiesling.
Davies will helm the symphony’s season finale on May 7. In addition to leading the orchestra, he will conduct the Cal Poly choirs and the Cuesta Master Chorale; he’s led the latter ensemble as director since 1985.

Also in store for the symphony’s 2015-16 season are three chamber concerts and an Apex for Kids children’s concert.
This year's Pops by the Sea concert, traditionally held Labor Day weekend in Avila Beach, has been canceled, although the outdoor event could return next year.
This season will be the symphony’s first since the departure of former Music Director Michael Nowak.
In a decision that was announced publicly May 14, the San Luis Obispo Symphony's board of directors voted unanimously to terminate Nowak's contract.
No official reason has been given for his ouster.
