Arroyo Grande’s Clark Center for the Performing Arts is adding movies to its events calendar.

The Clark Classic Movie Series kicks off Feb. 9 with a screening of the 1936 movie “Swing Time,” starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. The film will be paired with previews and cartoons from the 1920s and '30s.

Organizers hope the screening series will attract first-time visitors to the Clark Center, said Jamie Maraviglia, director of marketing and operations at the Clark Center Association.

“Basically, we’re just trying to get people into the building that might not have been here before,” she said.

According to Maraviglia, the screening series is part of the Clark Center’s Tickets for Good program, which provides complimentary tickets to senior, youth and other underserved audiences each season.

The Clark Center plans to offer quarterly screenings of classic movies, depending on the response.

“Swing Time” screens at 3 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Clark Center, 487 Fair Oaks Ave. in Arroyo Grande. Moviegoers are asked to donate $10 each; admission is free for those who can’t afford to donate.
