The California Mid-State Fair opens its 12-day run Wednesday, July 20, kicking off with poultry and horse shows in the morning before the full fairgrounds open at noon.

Once again missing was the traditional cattle drive through town, which had marked the official start of the fair since 1995.

“Previous management decided to cancel the drive” last year, fair spokesman Tom Keffury said, adding that new fair CEO Michael Bradley plans to bring it back in 2017.

Fall Out Boy performs as the opening night grandstand stage act, and tickets are still available for $36 to $81.

On Tuesday, workers were busy with final preparations, testing rides and unloading carnival prizes.

The 2016 fair runs from Wednesday to Sunday, July 31.
