College Roundup: Hasay finishes third at Pac-10 Championships

closeFormer Mission Prep standout Jordan Hasay finished third at the Pac-10 Cross Country Championships in Long Beach on Friday.
Hasay’s time of 19 minutes, 48 seconds was seven seconds behind teammate Nicole Blood, who won the women’s 6K race at the Sky Links Golf Course.
“It’s very satisfying to have Nicole go out as a Pac-10 champion her senior year,” Oregon head coach Vin Lananna said in a news release. “Nicole and Jordan ran terrific races today.”
Washington’s Kendra Schaaf, last year’s individual champion, finished two seconds ahead of Hasay.
Oregon finished second in the team scoring with 42 points to 35 for top-ranked Washington.
Hasay was easily the top freshman runner. The second freshman to finish was Washington’s Allison Linnell in 19th place, nearly 50 seconds behind Hasay.
On the men’s side, No. 1 Stanford won the men’s title with 25 points. The Ducks finished second with 48.
VOLLEYBALL
Long Beach State 3, Cal Poly 0
The Mustangs got a match-high 14 kills from freshman outside hitter Megan McConnell in a 25-22, 25-20, 25-22 loss to the 49ers in Mott Gym.
Junior middle blocker Dominique Olowolafe had nine kills on a .474 hitting percentage for Cal Poly (6-18, 2-9 Big West), which fell to just half a game ahead of UC Riverside for eighth place in the conference.
Long Beach State (14-5, 7-2), which hit .343 as a team, was led by Naomi Washington’s 14 kills.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Cuesta 2, Oxnard 0
Ashton Swiacki and Sarah Wheeler each scored on separate corner kicks from Emily Barbera to give Cuesta (4-9-3, 2-4-1 West State Conference) the shutout victory.
Swiacki headed the ball into the back of the net, giving the Cougars a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Wheeler scored on a volley in the second half, securing the lead for Cuesta.
“It was nice to get a shutout victory,” Cuesta head coach Bob Wilson said. “ (Goalkeepers) Christine Gilbertson and Mari Monticelli really helped ensure the shutout. This win secures our place above Oxnard.”
