Prep Football: Strong second half lifts Oxnard past San Luis Obispo
After forging 7-7 tie, Tigers give up 23 points after halftime in loss

closeThe Oxnard High football team scored 23 second-half points to beat San Luis Obispo 30-14 on Friday night in San Luis Obispo.
After slipping into a 7-0 deficit in the first quarter, the Tigers’ Nate Nunno was able to score San Luis Obispo’s first touchdown in the second quarter. Nunno’s 15-yard rush brought the Tigers (1-1) back to a 7-7 halftime time. In the third quarter, Nunno scored again on a 76-yard run to cap the Tigers’ scoring.
Nipomo 36, Carpinteria 29

Nipomo (2-1) jumped out to a big lead and held on despite 23 fourth-quarter points for Carpinteria.
Eric Penningroth had two touchdown runs and finished with 197 yards on 22 carries. He also had a touchdown reception from Josh Correia, who also threw a first-half touchdown to Kevin Britt.
Garrett Robinson had a 40-yard interception return for a touchdown in the first quarter.
Pioneer Valley 28, Arroyo Grande 21 (OT)
Pioneer Valley’s Dan Ando rushed for 179 yards on 32 carries and scored on a 3-yard run in overtime to win the nonleague game.
Arroyo Grande (2-1) wide receiver Lataurus Johnson caught eight passes for 132 yards and the game-tying touchdown pass from Matt McAustin in the fourth quarter. McAustin finished 19 of 32 for 299 yards passing.
Atascadero 48, Gilroy 34
Atascadero didn’t throw a pass in the second half while Gilroy failed to rush the ball in second half as the Greyhounds (2-1) prevailed in the nonleague game. No other information was available.
Mission Prep 58, Avenal 0
Kevin Laird caught touchdown passes of 24 and 45 yards, ran for a 46-yard touchdown and returned an interception 68 yards for a score as the Royals battered Avenal.
Quarterback Jedd Hasay finished 6 of 8 for 106 yards with three touchdowns and an interception, and Matt Howell had a 23-yard touchdown run and a fumble recovery in the end zone for another score.
Hasay also led the Royals (1-2) with 57 yards on nine carries.
Lighthouse Christian 28, North County Christian 16
Austin Wiemann had a 3-yard touchdown run, and Austin Boggan added an eight-yard touchdown run for the Crusaders (0-2) but it wasn’t enough.
Caruthers at Coast Union, postponed
Coast Union’s home football game at home against Caruthers was delayed by a power outage in Cambria and has been rescheduled for 1 p.m. today in Caruthers.
