The San Luis Obispo Blues finished 2-1 in the Santa Maria Valley Packers Tournament on Saturday with an 8-5 win over the Conejo Oaks in a summer collegiate baseball game at Allan Hancock College.

The Blues (23-7) went 2-1 in pool play but did not advance to the championship bracket because of the runs allowed tiebreaker. The Blues allowed 14 runs in their three games compared to 11 for the Oaks and 10 for the Santa Maria Pilots.

San Luis Obispo never trailed in Saturday’s game, opening the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the third inning and building the lead to 4-0 before the Oaks scored a single run in the fifth inning.

Taylor Hubbell improved to 4-1 by allowing six hits and all five Conejo runs in 71⁄3 innings. He struck out two and walked three. Cory Hall pitched the final 12⁄3 innings for his second save.

Left fielder Luke Yoder and shortstop William Long were both 3 for 4 for San Luis Obispo. Long and center fielder Andrew Letourneau both scored twice, and Jake Atwell had two hits. The Blues also benefited from four Conejo errors.

San Luis Obispo returns to action Tuesday with a 6:35 home game against the Santa Maria Valley Packers.

San Luis Obispo Rattlers 7, Urban Academy Barons 6

Shortstop Robert Vickers singled home catcher Josh Jackson with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Rattlers the California Collegiate League win at SLO Stadium.

The Barons (7-13, 7-9 CCL) led 4-1 after three innings, but the Rattlers (19-8, 10-7) scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 5-4 lead.

Urban Academy responded with two runs in the top of the seventh to regain the lead at 6-5.

San Luis Obispo tied it in the bottom of the eighth when third baseman Evan Busby hit a sacrifice fly to score center fielder Mitch Haniger, setting the stage for Vickers’ ninth-inning heroics.

Designated hitter Pat Donabedian had three of the Rattlers’ 10 hits. Vickers and first baseman Joe Weik each added two hits, and Busby and second baseman Bobby Buckner each drove in two runs.

Danny Price pitched the final two innings to get the win.

The same two teams play today at 1:05 p.m. at SLO Stadium.
