Comments (0) | The No.1 seeded Coast Union girls volleyball team won handily at home, beating Fresno Christian 25-13, 25-17, 25-10 during the semifinals of the CIF-Central Section Division V playoffs.
The win sets up a showdown in the finals with Mission Prep on Thursday at Coast Union. The Broncos carry a little bit of an edge into the match after beating the Royals, 3-0 and 3-2 in the two previous meetings this season.
Against Fresno Christian, Devin Smith hit seven kills, and teammates Skyler Moon, Ashley Grise, and Sophie Fleminon pitched in six, six, and five, respectively. Ashlan Cate led Coast Union in assists with 28.
With the win the Broncos extend their winning streak to nine matches.
Mission Prep 3, Strathmore 0
The Royals (15-2) took home a 25-14, 25-11, 25-15 semifinal road win over Strathmore in the to move into the finals of the CIF-Central Section Division V playoffs.
Natalie Fernandez co-led Mission Prep with seven kills and 19 digs. Danielle Brescia shared the kill lead while adding two blocks.
Kerstin Sanders turned in 18 digs and a team-leading three service aces for the Royals, and Kori Disarufino led with 16 assists.
Mission Prep will hit the road Thursday to play Coast Union in the finals.
Coastal Christian 3, Santa Clarita Christian 0
In what Conquerors head coach Misty Sano called their best match this season, Coastal Christian dominated all three games beating Santa Clarita Christian 25-14, 25-9, 25-19 in the semifinals of the CIF-Southern Section Division V-AA playoffs.
Kaitlyn Henry showcased her versatility recording 12 kills, three blocks, 14 digs and an ace. Rachel Milligan led the Conquerors with 21 digs and 13 kills. Setter Madison Sano again led Coastal Christian (19-2) with 27 assists.
“The girls played fast and hard, they couldn’t stay with us,” Misty Sano said. “This is the best I’ve seen them play, we’re peaking coming into the finals.”
In the finals on Friday, Coastal Christian will face the winner from the semifinal match between Milken Community and Connelly. If Connelly wins, Coastal Christian has a chance at redemption for last season’s loss to Connelly in the finals.
