Comments (0) | Rafael Baca scored on a 64th-minute cross from Phil Da Silva as Loyola Marymount edged Cal Poly 1-0 to hand the Mustangs’ men’s soccer team its first loss of the season Friday afternoon at Sullivan Field in Los Angeles.
“We lost the game on one play,” Mustangs head coach Paul Holocher said. “There was a little breakdown in the back where we didn’t position ourselves properly to transition quickly enough. But we played well enough to win the game.”
The Mustangs outshot the Lions 10-8 and took six shots on goal, but goalkeeper Patrick Sampson thwarted each try for LMU (1-0-2). Cal Poly goalkeeper Eric Branagan- Franco made one save.
Cal Poly (1-1) will continue nonconference play by hosting Kentucky at 1 p. m. Sunday.
