The Atascadero High boys tennis team’s Brendan Adams defeated Guillermo Bonnett of San Luis Obispo 5-7, 7-6 (7-4), 6-0 to win the singles title at the PAC 8 finals in Paso Robles on Friday.
Adams advanced to the finals after defeating San Luis Obispo’s Noah Cleere 6-2, 6-1, and Bonnett defeated Arroyo Grande’s Andrew Archangel 6-1, 6-1.
Adams’ win marks Atascadero’s first singles title in school history.
San Luis Obispo had both teams in the doubles final as the tandem of Alex Dill and Adie Alwen defeated Pablo Caminada and Chase Braun 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).
Dill and Alwen advanced after defeating Tommy Lay and Miles Jorgensen of Righetti 6-2, 6-3.
Caminada and Braun beat another Tigers team, Elijah Selman and Alessandro Pederzoli, 6-1, 6-7 (7-3) 6-2.
Fifth-ranked San Luis Obispo, which went undefeated in PAC 8 duals, will likely be at home for its CIF-Southern Section Division 2 playoff opener Wednesday.
Los Padres League finals
Morro Bay’s Andrew Calderwood and Mark Olson finished second in the doubles tournament as they beat Lompoc’s Henry Ricardo and Mark Morales 6-1, 6-1 in the semifinals before losing in the finals to the Braves’ Oscar Ramirez and Juan Baez 6-3, 3-6, 11-9.
Templeton’s Jarred Hall was the runner-up in singles, losing to PJ Marymee of Santa Ynez.
Atascadero 14, Mission Prep 0
Holden Nix was 3 for 5 with two RBI and two runs, and Zack Garcia was 3 for 3 with three RBI for the Greyhounds (10-13) in the round-robin PAC 8 Tournament.
Nolan Meridith pitched all seven innings with two hits, and Lucas Sprouse was 2 for 3 with three RBI.
Antonio Aiello, Renn Duncan and Andy Boncich had a single apiece for Mission Prep (4-16-1).
San Luis Obispo 4, Pioneer Valley 3
The Tigers scored in the bottom of the seventh to beat Pioneer Valley in the PAC 8 Tournament.
Jacob Rodgers pitched a complete game, allowing six hits, three runs and striking out two. Tru Wells had a single, a triple and an RBI, and Jeremy Jess had an RBI, a single and two walks for San Luis Obispo (13-12).
St. Joseph 10, Arroyo Grande 5
Steven Self, Noah Elias and Anthony Bautista each had an RBI single for the Eagles (15-10) in their PAC 8 Tournament matchup.
Arroyo Grande trailed by one before a four-run fourth inning by the Knights put the game out of reach.
Morro Bay 5, Orcutt Academy 4
JJ May’s RBI triple in the fourth inning broke open a 4-4 tie, scoring Kalvin Hilliard.
Harrison Meinke pitched six innings with no earned runs, four strikeouts and one walk.
May went 2 for 3 with an RBI double, and Hilliard was 2 for 3 with two runs for Morro Bay (11-13, 5-6 LPL).
Cabrillo 6, Nipomo 3
Nipomo scored three runs in the bottom of the first for an early lead. Peyton Witcher had a double and scored on a Matt Albright single.
Albright later scored on a Colton Blume single, and Jose Ojeda singled and later scored on a ground out.
Trevor Moss pitched 51⁄3 innings, allowing three earned runs and had three strikeouts for Nipomo (4-16, 1-11 LPL).
Templeton 3, Lompoc 1
Mac Lardner threw a complete game six-hitter with nine strikeouts for the Eagles (12-11, 8-4 LPL).
Lardner and Jake Walsh both had fifth-inning RBI hits to break a 1-1 tie, and Scott Rigdon and Shane Wyatt both had two hits and a run.
Coast Union 12, Shandon 2, 5 innings
Jake McAvoy had two singles and two RBI, and Marcus Godfrey had two singles and a run for the Broncos (10-8, 8-0 Coast Valley League).
Arroyo Grande 6, Pioneer Valley 1
Kacie Burger had a solo home run, part of a three-run first inning, and added two walks for Arroyo Grande. Natilee Parrish added a three-run home run in the sixth inning.
Julie Lewis pitched a complete game with four strikeouts and four walks for the Eagles (12-9, 8-2 PAC 8).
Atascadero 2, San Luis Obispo 0
The Greyhounds won the pitching dual as Sally Bowles threw a complete game with one hit and eight strikeouts.
Atascadero (12-12, 6-4 PAC 8) scored in the first as Jessica Rouse hit a triple and scored on an error. The Greyhounds added an insurance run in the sixth when Lauryn Sant doubled in Sarah Wulff.
Sami Good pitched six innings with eight strikeouts and one earned run for the Tigers (14-12, 3-8).
Morro Bay 8, Orcutt Academy 2
Fallon Molnar had a pair of three-run home runs, and Kendall Schemmer pitched a complete game, allowing an earned run with five strikeouts for Morro Bay (10-13-1, 7-5 LPL).
Cabrillo 16, Nipomo 0
Vannessa Davis, Jannae Abatti and Mariah Hunter had the only hits in the home loss for the Titans (10-14, 6-6 LPL).
Lompoc 4, Templeton 2
The Eagles (10-14, 6-6 LPL) fell at home.
Coast Union 10, Shandon 0, 5 innings
Ani Corbet and Ellie Magnuson combined to pitch a no-hitter as Corbet struck out six and Magnusson had two strikeouts.
Remy Corbet had a pair of singles and an RBI, and Patty Bucio had a single and three runs. Morgan Clark had two hits and two runs for the Broncos (13-7, 10-0 CVL).
Coastal Christian 35, Maricopa 9, 5 innings
Roni Garrison was 3 for 5 with two home runs, including a grand slam, while pitching all five innings with 11 strikeouts.
The Conquerors also had Delaney Springer with a triple and six RBI and Reanne Iunker with a double and five RBI.
CIF-Southern Section playoff pairings
In CIF-Southern Section Division 3, Arroyo Grande will host the winner of today’s Bishop Diego and Salesian in a wild-card game Tuesday.
Mission Prep and San Luis Obispo earned wild-card berths as well. The Tigers travel to Crossroads today, and the Royals host Fillmore on Monday.
In Division 4, Templeton heads to Redlands and Morro Bay plays at Yucaipa in Tuesday’s first round.
