The Arroyo Grande High baseball team came up with clutch defense to win 3-2 over visiting Atascadero on Friday afternoon and maintain its perfect league record.
The Eagles (14-6, 11-0 PAC 8) led 3-0 going into the seventh inning, but the Greyhounds (8-11, 6-5) scored twice on Noah Gostelo’s two-out, two-run single that scored Zach Garcia and Will Scott with the bases loaded. The Eagles managed to tag the runner going from second to third to end the game.
Jeffery Fernandes pitched a complete game for Arroyo Grande, striking out five and giving up no earned runs on three hits.
Holden Nix pitched six innings with four strikeouts, four hits, two walks, and one error for the Greyhounds.

San Luis Obispo 3, St. Joseph 1
Jeremy Jess pitched a complete game, allowing one earned run and three hits and striking out four over seven innings.
Jess also had an RBI, and Brooks Hollister had a double and a run for the Tigers.
Paso Robles 1, Pioneer Valley 0
Nolan Binkele pitched five innings, giving up two hits, striking out two, and walking one, before Jonathan Baldwin earned the save with three strikeouts over two innings for Paso Robles (16-4, 9-2 PAC 8).
Paso Robles’ run came in the sixth when Bailey Gaither and Baldwin were on the corners. Baldwin stole second and Gaither scored from third on the throw.
Righetti 13, Mission Prep 12
The Royals couldn’t complete a comeback, scoring three in the top of the seventh before giving up a game-winning single in the bottom half of the inning.
Eddie Fernandez and Bryce Fledderman both went 2 for 3 as Fernandez had two RBI and two runs while Fledderman had an RBI and a run.
Carson O’Connor drove in three with a double for Mission Prep (3-15-1, 0-11 PAC 8).
Coast Union 10, Valley Christian Academy 3
Lane Sutherland and Gehrig Kniffen were both 3 for 3, and Sutherland added two RBI.
Jake McAvoy pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts and two walks for the Broncos (7-8, 6-0 Coast Valley League).
Righetti 7, San Luis Obispo 3
Marissa Piatt hit a two-run home run, but that wasn’t enough for the Tigers (12-10, 1-6 PAC 8).
Hanna Gibbs had one strikeout and one run allowed in three innings in relief in the circle.
Templeton 1, Morro Bay 0
Shaylyn Coy pitched a complete game, allowing six hits with three strikeouts and a walk.
Kaitlin Doty scored the only run on a Katie Murphee single in the first inning for Templeton (6-12, 4-4 Los Padres League).
Kendall Schemmer pitched a complete game for Morro Bay (8-11-1, 5-3) allowing one earned run and striking out nine. Morro Bay had the tying run on second in the bottom of the seventh, but a line drive to shortstop ended the rally.
Coastal Christian 18, Santa Barbara 8, 5 innings
Roni Garrison had a bases-clearing double in the third inning and pitched all five innings, striking out 10 on the road.
Teanna Iunker added four RBI, two on a single in the fifth, for Coastal Christian (4-5).
SWIMMING AND DIVING
Boys: San Luis Obispo 212, Mission Prep 58; Girls: San Luis Obispo 214, Mission Prep 77
In the closest race of the day, San Luis Obispo went first and second in the 200-yard freestyle as Nigel Goodison out-touched Austin Petersen by 0.02 seconds, winning in 1 minute, 57.75 seconds.
Petersen later won the 500 freestyle (5:17.22), and Galen Penvenne won the 200 individual medley (2:09.26) and the 100 freestyle (50.77).
Anna Petersen won the girls 200 freestyle (2:04.69) and the 100 freestyle (57.36), and Gaby Penvenne won the 100 butterfly (1:00.8) and the 100 backstroke (1:01.77).
Grace Oeser won the girls 50 freestyle (25.88) for the Royals.
Boys: Morro Bay 97, Cabrillo 73; Girls: Cabrillo 99, Morro Bay 71
Travis Chirman won the boys 100 butterfly in 59.48 and the 100 backstroke in 59.74 for the Pirates (5-1, 5-0 LPL).
Matt Franzmann also won the 100 freestyle in 51.76.
Torie White won the girls 200 freestyle in 2:07.80 and the 100 freestyle in 57.20 for the Pirates’ (4-3, 4-2).
TRACK AND FIELD
Patriot Games in Bakersfield
Madison Moore set a Paso Robles school record in the girls 800 meters with a time of 2:14.84. Ashley Davis finished second in the 1,600 in 5:09.57, and Cody Wilshusen took second in the pole vault at 11 feet.
Kristen Thompson finished second in the discus at129-9, and Madison Mitchell took second in the 300 hurdles in 47.57.
Zack Chamberlain won the boys 3,200 in 9:28.41, and Josh Potter finished second in the 1,600 in 4:29.66 for the Bearcats.
For Arroyo Grande, Talley Hill won the girls 1,600 meters in 5:06.19, and Josephine Graeber won the triple jump with a mark of 36-3 1⁄2 and took second on the 4x100 relay team with Chiara Coppola, Taryn Tweedy, and Lisa Fung. Samantha Henkel won the shot put in 41-9.
Christian Ricketts finished second in the boys 3,200 in 9:29.00 for the Eagles, and Jacob Emeterio finished fifth in 9:36.00. Gerrit Sterling took second in the pole vault with a 13-6 mark, and Matt Sill finished third in the 300 hurdles in 41.12.
