Cynthia Navis, who helped the Nipomo girls golf team go undefeated in the Los Padres League in her only season with the team, signed a National Letter of Intent on Wednesday to compete for Santa Clara.
Navis recently moved from Florida to Nipomo with her family, and the senior quickly became the key cog for a Titans team that went 6-0 in LPL duals and placed 15th at the CIF-Southern Section Northern Division team championships.
“We were, on paper, the team to win it this year,” coach Jim DeLaby said. “With her, we cemented it.”
Navis shot a school-record 2-under 34 to win the LPL finals at Marshalia Ranch at Vandenberg Air Force Base. She followed that with a 6-over 78 at the Northern Division individual regional to qualify for the Southern Section individual championship, but had to withdraw because of illness.
DeLaby said Navis’ scholarship at Santa Clara is half academic and half athletic.
“She shot a lot of great rounds, and I think as she gets more acclimated (to California) she’ll get even lower,” DeLaby said. “I’ve seen her hit some professional shots at Monarch (Dunes).”
