Cary Nerelli, the Allan Hancock College women’s basketball coach and formerly a longtime multi-sport coach at Morro Bay High will be inducted into the CIF-Southern Section’s hall of fame Thursday.
Joining an induction class of 10, Nerelli is being recognized for more than 40 years as a cross country, girls basketball and track and field coach for the Pirates. He ranks 23rd all-time in state history in girls basketball with 456 career victories.
Nerelli led Morro Bay to five league championships, three section titles and four runner-up divisional finishes. Under Nerelli, the Pirates boys and girls cross country teams had nearly 30 league titles and seven section championships.
“The recognition validates the thousands of hours I put into preparing my athletes not only to succeed in sports, but also in life," Nerelli said in a news release. "Sports is the way I have chosen to help people mature and make a difference in the world.”

Last season, Nerelli’s first at Hancock, the Bulldogs enjoyed their most successful season in 11 years.
