The Templeton High girls volleyball team hosted San Luis Obispo on Tuesday in a closely contested match that featured four games all decided by three points of less.
On the strength of Lauren Ralston’s all-around performance, the Eagles prevailed 22-25, 26-24, 26-24, 25-23.
“Lauren was definitely a leader for us tonight,” said Templeton coach Jodi Kelly, who added the key to winning was “staying consistent and fighting.”
“We had a lot of hitting errors,” she said, “but they persevered and there was no lack of effort or attitude with my team.”
Ralston finished with 15 kills, 10 digs, six aces and two blocks. Julie Cates had 12 kills, and Lucy Portillo added nine for Templeton (3-1). Josi Kelly dished out 29 assists, and Lauren Nystrom, who didn’t play in the first set, came off the bench to serve five aces, including six straight points to end the second frame.
Holland Boege led San Luis Obispo (8-2) with 18 kills, and Merissa Branhart had 36 assists. Calli Hamari had a team-high 18 digs.
Arroyo Grande 3, Cabrillo 0
Ashlyn Herlihy had 18 kills, three aces and three blocks in a 25-9, 25-7, 25-12 rout of Cabrillo.
Emily Sonny had 13 kills, and Alaina Hogeboom dished out 41 assists and three aces for the Eagles (8-2).
Paso Robles 3, Nipomo 1
Chloe Kerns had 24 assists and three aces as the Bearcats won 25-15, 20-25, 25-22, 25-17.
Kerns added five digs and four kills for Paso Robles (8-3), and Kaylyn Armstrong had 13 kills, three blocks and three aces. Hannah Kapches chipped in six kills.
Whitney Bland had five kills and five aces for Nipomo (0-4). Kendra Jackson had 29 digs and a pair of aces, and Lacy LeBlanc recorded 25 assists.
Mission Prep 3, Bishop Diego 1
Jennifer Laird had 11 kills in the Royals’ 22-25, 26-24, 25-21, 25-21 win.
Sarah Reed had six kills for Mission Prep (2-0), and Eleri Perryman distributed 16 assists.
Atascadero 3, Coast Union 0
Kaylie Griffin had 17 kills to lead the Greyhounds to a 25-17, 25-19, 25-10 victory. Kathryn Sedley had 10 kills and four digs, and Brooke Harbottle added 30 assists for Atascadero (3-7).
Sage Radecki had 20 assists and four kills, and Janelle Bohey contributed five kills for Coast Union (1-4).
San Luis Obispo 12, Paso Robles 6
The Tigers won all nine doubles sets, led by the No. 1 team of Anna Lippold and Fiona Huffaker, which won 6-0, 6-1, 6-1.
The team of Caroline Burke and Sam Good won 6-1, 6-2, 6-1 for San Luis Obispo (3-2, 2-0 PAC 8), and Jenny Zakaria won two of three singles sets.
Lindsey Horst dropped just one game in sweeping her singles sets for the Bearcats, and Katie Evenson won two of three sets.
Arroyo Grande 18, Righetti 0
Mary Waterman won all three sets for the Eagles (6-2, 2-0 PAC 8). Elizabeth Michniuk also won her sets 6-2, 6-0, 6-0.
Atascadero 10, St. Joseph 8
The doubles team of Natalie Manier and Julia Clickard won its two sets 6-4, 6-1 to lead Atascadero (2-3, 1-1 PAC 8) to its first league win.
The doubles tandem of Charlotte Holt and Courtney Basben added two sets of its own, winning 7-6, 6-1.
Pioneer Valley 17, Mission Prep 1
The Royals’ doubles team of Maddie Baxstresser and Bascia Mierzki won a set to keep Mission Prep (0-2, 0-2 PAC 8) from being swept by the Panthers.
Lompoc 12, Templeton 6
Mili Prost swept her singles sets 6-1, 6-0, 6-0 for the Eagles (0-5, 0-2 Los Padres League). Bijou Burns won two of her three singles sets for Templeton.
Cabrillo 14, Morro Bay 4
Alzbeta Hermanova won all three of her sets 6-1, 6-0, 6-0 for the Pirates (3-3, 1-1 LPL).
Santa Ynez 17, Nipomo 1
Julie Johnson took the lone set for the Titans (2-4, 0-2 LPL), winning 6-4.
Arroyo Grande 263, Paso Robles 317
Tessa Oates shot a 48 to lead the Eagles in nine holes at the par-36 Cypress Ridge Golf Course.
Kinsey McBryde turned in a 49, and Rachel Harris shot 51 for Arroyo Grande (1-3, 1-0 PAC 8).
Mary Hambly led the Bearcats with a 55.
Righetti 228, San Luis Obispo 233
Neha Sikand shot a team-best 3-over 38 for the Tigers on the front nine at Rancho Maria Golf Course.
Righetti’s Sarah Fouratt was the medalist at 35.
Lisa Figueroa shot a 42 for San Luis Obispo (3-1, 0-1 PAC 8), and Isabel Carpenter carded a 47.
BOYS WATER POLO
Arroyo Grande 15, Paso Robles 3
Josh Smith and Josh Jewell had four goals apiece as Arroyo Grande (1-1, 1-0 PAC 8) won its league opener.
Connor Sandman and Blake Adams chipped in two goals each.
Atascadero 17, Pioneer Valley 3
Five Greyhounds scored multiple goals, led by Scott Beraud’s four goals.
Dylan Hughes and Blake Archibald both scored three times for Atascadero (5-2, 1-0 PAC 8), and Jack Fisher and Dylan Linnenkamp both had a pair. James Fisher made 14 saves.
St. Joseph 9, Morro Bay 4
Jack Krull had 14 saves in a losing effort for the Pirates (0-3). Travis Sherman added two goals.
