Jacob Valencia scattered three hits and struck out four in a complete-game victory to lift the Nipomo High baseball team past Atascadero, 2-0, Wednesday in the season opener for both teams.
The Titans scored one run in the fifth inning on an RBI double by Alex Morales and tacked on another in the sixth, when Jose Ojeda singled home a run.
Ojeda finished with a pair of singles, as did Valencia. Trevor Moss doubled and scored on Morales’ hit.
Ty Townsend pitched six innings for the Greyhounds, striking out four and yielding six hits.
Nipomo 17, Coast Union 0, 5 innings
Freshmen pitchers Hope Goodall and Bri Sa combined to throw a no-hitter for the Titans (2-0).
Goodall struck out four batters in four innings and also went 3 for 4 at the plate with three runs scored. Sa struck out all three batters she faced in the fifth.
Saundra Renner batted in four runs and was 4 for 4. Anahi Venses collected three hits, and Vangie
Lopez drove in two runs for Nipomo, which scored 13 runs on 10 hits in the third inning.
San Luis Obispo 13, San Marcos 5
The No. 1 doubles team of Josh Milla and Luke Olson lost just three games en route to winning all three of their sets for the Tigers (1-1).
The doubles team of Noah Cleere and Alex Dill also won all three sets in the No. 2 doubles match.
San Luis Obispo — along with Arroyo Grande and Atascadero — travels to Fresno on Friday for the California Tennis Classic.
Santa Ynez 12, Arroyo Grande 6
Derek Lakowske won all three of his sets at No. 1 singles for the Eagles (0-1).
The No. 1 doubles team of Jamieson O’Marr and Skyler Zirpolo took two of three sets for Arroyo Grande, which earned its final point when the doubles team of Alex Keck and Joseph Goryance won one of three sets.
SWIMMING AND DIVING
Boys: San Luis Obispo 396, Morro Bay 168; Girls: San Luis Obispo 365, Morro Bay 192
In the first dual meet of the season, the Tigers’ Evan Holtz won the 500-yard freestyle in a CIF-Southern Section automatic qualifying time of 4 minutes, 46.32 seconds. He also won the 100 butterfly in 58.34 seconds.
Teammate Tyler Andree won the 200 individual medley in 2:02.67 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:04.37.
Jack Krull finished first in the 50 freestyle in 23.85 seconds, and Joel Wilkie won the 100 freestyle in 52.96 for the Pirates.
In the girls meet, San Luis Obispo’s Gabby Pennvenne took the 200 IM in 2:16.32 and 100 butterfly in 1:00.03. Morro Bay’s Alissa Marvin won the 100 breaststroke in an automatic sectional qualifying time of 1:11.77.
