Sierra Schwellenbach scored 16 points to guide Morro Bay High’s girls basketball team over Independence 44-13 at the Ruth Doser Invitational in Atascadero on Friday.
The Pirates (3-0) held a 20-6 lead at the half, and a 15-3 third-quarter advantage quelled any thought of an Independence comeback. Julia Fonturbel pulled in nine rebounds in addition to her eight points, Olivia MacDonald tacked on nine points, and Vicki Roboz scored six for Morro Bay.
San Luis Obispo 35, Nipomo 32
A back-and-forth game saw the Titans (0-3) squander a 19-17 halftime lead thanks to the efforts of Jessica Judge, who scored 14 points, snagged five rebounds and blocked two shots for the Tigers (2-1), and Natalia DeMartini tacked on 12 points.
Taylor Nevitt and Mercedes Rodriguez led Nipomo (0-3) with 10 points each. The Titans were 0 for 9 on 3-point attempts in the game.

Valley Christian Academy 55, Coastal Christian 17
Roni Garrison provided seven points to lead the Conquerors. Coastal Christian (1-1) also got four points apiece from Amy Arnold and Hannah Brennan.
King City 63, Coast Union 16
Reagen Kniffen and Rima Panchal each scored five points for the Broncos.

Escondido 69, Arroyo Grande 59
Cobe Williams had 25 points and four assists, but the Eagles fell after the Cougars scored 25 points in the fourth quarter. Williams had five 3-pointers and was 6 for 6 from the free-throw line.
Escondido’s Khy Kabellis led all scorers with 34 points.
Quillan Smith had 14 points and 11 rebounds for Arroyo Grande, and Carson Wack had 12 points.
Fallbrook 57, San Luis Obispo 27
Fallbrook outscored the Tigers 25-12 in the second half to pull away.
Chase Braun led San Luis Obispo (1-1) with six points. Vanley Bernard and Alex Chai each had five points.
Sultana 69, Morro Bay 30
The Pirates fell to 0-3 on the season.
Coast Union 43, Mendota 23
Angel Avina led all scorers with 22 points and had the only 3-point field goal for the Broncos. Coast Union never relinquished its lead as it remained in control for all four quarters.
Cats & Hounds Invitational at Atascadero and Paso Robles
Paso Robles lost its first game to Golden Valley, 1-0. Juan Carlos had one save. In their second game, the Bearcats beat Lompoc 2-2 by winning 3-2 on penalty kicks. Luis Reyes had two goals in the first 12 minutes for Paso Robles (4-1), but the Braves scored two in the second half to force penalty kicks.
Nipomo beat Mission Prep 3-1 in the teams’ first games of the day. Juan Valdez, Eduardo Sarazia and Brian Araujo scored for the Titans. Mike Arevalo had an assist, and Johann Ayala had three saves.
In the Titans’ second game, they lost 3-0 to Dos Pueblos. Ayala had four saves in the first half and part of the second. Jason Alvarado had four saves and no goals allowed in relief.
Morro Bay (1-3) fell to Colony 5-0 and Mayfair 2-0. Oscar Loeza had 18 saves on the day.

Paso Robles had five undefeated wrestlers through three rounds.
Kameron Morones at 126 pounds, Trevor Torres (138), Zach Holmes (160), Rudy Nunez (170) and Kacey Milsap (195) each pinned all of their opponents.
GIRLS WATER POLO
Paso Robles at Mistletoe Tournament at Newbury Park
The Bearcats were unable to leave Newbury Park with a victory after falling to El Segundo 8-6 and Pacifica, 8-1.
Shannon Rees scored three goals on the day, while Kelsey Lewis compiled 14 saves for Paso Robles (1-3).
Makenna Pugh, Cameron Magnuson, Summer Botts and Laileha Vermy each scored once.
