The Atascadero High football team scored eight rushing touchdowns to win in a 56-6 rout Friday night over Pioneer Valley in the PAC 7 opener for both teams.
Pioneer Valley received the opening kickoff and drove down and scored. After missing the extra point, the Panthers (2-3) were shut out the rest of the way.
Atascadero (3-2) running back Izaiah Cooks had 127 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries, including a 65-yard touchdown in the first quarter. The Greyhounds finished with 501 rushing yards on 57 carries.
Atascadero only attempted two passes and completed both of them for a toal of 60 yards. Quarterback Robbie Berwick was 1 of 1 for 28 yards and had 31 rushing yards and a touchdown.
“The plan wasn’t to run the ball that much,” Atascadero coach Vic Cooper said. “We did a great job out front and it worked out for us. We have Arroyo Grande next week and we know they watched this game.
“They have two weeks to prepare for us, but if we want to complete our goal as PAC 7 champs, we have to go through them.”
