After the first day of the Mid-Cal Classic Tournament in Gilroy on Friday night, the Paso Robles High wrestling team is in second place out of 75 teams with 192.5 points.
Out of the 14 weight classes, six of them have undefeated Bearcats that have clinched at least sixth place.
In the 154-pound class, Kevan Garcia has three pins following his first-round bye. Garcia has pins at 27 seconds, 1:56 and 1:02. Colton Madrigal (172) had a bye, won by forfeit, and then pins at 1:04 and 2:53.
Austin Yarborough (184) had a bye and pins at 46 seconds and 3:02. Jimmy Pacheco (197) had two byes, pin at 1:39 and won by a 2-1 decision to advance to the semifinals.
Kameron Morones (108) had a bye, won by 4-3 decision, 18-2 technical fall, and 9-0 major decision. Josh Hayley (222) had a bye, won by 6-2 decision, 2-0 decision, and 7-1 decision.
Turlock leads the team competition with 193.5 points. Palma is in third with 132.5.
Atascadero 76, Pioneer Valley 54
Robbie Berwick scored 18 points and had five assists for the Greyhounds in their home win.
Joe Johnson scored 13 points, and Jared Stuedemann added nine for Atascadero (11-8, 4-2 PAC 7).
Andrew Madrigal led the Panthers (3-14, 1-5 PAC 7) with 13 points.
St. Joseph 75, Paso Robles 42
The Knights controlled the game behind Case Bruton’s 24 points, and Curry Parham’s 18.
Jaylon Davis had a team-high 21 points for the Bearcats (5-14, 1-5 PAC 7). Paso Robles trailed 33-26 at halftime.
Righetti 64, San Luis Obispo 45
David Thoresen scored 15 points for the Tigers (6-13, 1-5 PAC 7) in their loss to the Warriors.
Templeton 41, Santa Ynez 40
Andy Garretson had 15 points, and Aidan Sarbeck and Will Mehring added eight apiece for the Eagles as they beat the Pirates.
Templeton trailed by eight points with two minutes left, but rallied to even their record at 9-9 overall and 3-3 in the Los Padres League.
Cabrillo 53, Nipomo 14
The Titans (0-6 LPL) fell to the Conquistadores with a five-point effort from Kaileb Mendez.
Valley Christian 63, Coast Union 38
Quinten Raethke and Nahum Hernandez scored 10 points apiece for the Broncos (10-10, 5-2 Coast Valley League) in their loss to the Lions.
Coastal Christian 44, North County Chr. 38
Jared Springer and Mitchell Rey scored 11 points apiece for the Conquerors in the CVL matchup. Thomas Lindstaedt had a game-high 14 rebounds for Coastal Christian.
Nolan Cannon scored a game-high 16 points and had 10 rebounds for the Crusaders.
Blake Marchell scored 11, and Nathan Cedillo added six points, eight rebounds and six assists for North County Christian (3-10, 2-5).
San Luis Obispo 40, Righetti 30
Jessica Judge had 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Tigers as they beat the Warriors.
Christine Freberg added eight points for San Luis Obispo (10-9, 4-2 PAC 7).
Pioneer Valley 66, Atascadero 58
Maddie Leong and Sabrina Degnan scored 12 apiece, but the Greyhounds (10-6, 3-3 PAC 7) fell to the Panthers.
Amy Rodriguez led Pioneer Valley with 27 points.
St. Joseph 67, Paso Robles 43
Molly Donovan led the Bearcats (9-10, 2-4 PAC 7) with 22 points and 12 rebounds in their loss to the Knights.
Templeton 70, Santa Ynez 34
Mari Stewart and Megan Hattar each scored 18 for the Eagles in their home victory over the Pirates.
Stewart added 15 rebounds, and Hattar had seven assists for Templeton (16-3, 5-1 LPL).
The Eagles’ Brianna Delmonte scored nine points, and Autumn Russell added eight points and six assists.
Lindsey Suarez led Santa Ynez (1-19, 0-6 LPL) with 12 points.
Coastal Christian 46, Maricopa 39
Roni Garrison had 12 points, 19 rebounds and seven assists for the Conquerors in their CVL win over the Indians on the road. Hannah Brennan and Lucy Wickstrom scored 10 apiece for Coastal Christian.
Lizzy Rowan led Maricopa with 17 points.
Atascadero 2, Pioneer Valley 1
Savannah McCarthy scored off a corner kick for the Greyhounds (9-8-1, 1-5 PAC 7) in their victory over the Panthers in Santa Maria.
Brynne Guzman scored Atascadero’s other goal, and goalkeeper Emily Johnson had nine saves.
St. Joseph 4, Paso Robles 0
Natalya Marcove had 12 saves in goal, and Kelsey Vaughn had nine in the Bearcats’ (2-4 PAC 7) loss in Santa Maria.

Daniel Viramontes and Carson Barker each had two goals, and five other players scored one goal apiece for the Bearcats
(8-7-2, 2-4 PAC 7) in their win against the Knights.
Righetti 2, San Luis Obispo 0
The Tigers maintained possession for most of the game but were shut out by the Warriors.
Goalie Michael Lambert had seven saves for the Tigers (8-7-3, 2-4 PAC 7).
