Arroyo Grande High’s Eli Whittle, fresh off his third consecutive PAC 7 singles title, won three matches at the CIF-Southern Section boys individual tennis regionals in Carpinteria on Friday, qualifying for the sectional finals next week.
Whittle defeated Ben Furakawa of Laguna Blanca 6-0, 6-0 before holding on for a 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) victory over Santa Barbara’s Nick Polero, who had defeated Whittle earlier in the season.
In the third round, Whittle defeated Viewpoint’s Julian Gordy 6-4, 7-5 to advance to the finals. He advances to either the round of 32 on Thursday or the round of 16 on Friday.
Whittle wasn’t the only Eagle to play Friday. Sean Hollister won 6-3, 6-1 over Trent Lopez from Oxnard, then 6-4, 6-1 over previously undefeated Petar Jivkov of San Marcos before losing 6-3, 6-1 to Burroughs’ Garrett Auproux in the third round.

Arroyo Grande’s double team of Jordan Hayashi and Derek Lakowske won 6-2, 6-0 before falling to Morgan Hale and Logan Lidell of Santa Barbara 6-4, 6-1 in the second round.
San Luis Obispo’s doubles team of Mason Hansen and Adrian Angulo, who defeated Hayashi and Lakowske for the PAC 7 doubles title, advanced to the third round, but lost in a third-game tiebreaker 11-9.
