Eli Whittle defeated third-seeded Nikolas Ramadan of San Clemente 6-2, 6-2 to win the Boys 16s USTA Division of the Ojai Valley Tennis Tournament on Sunday.
“Eli served well, hit penetrating approach shots and stuck his volleys. It was evident he went out there to get a job done, as he never let up,” Arroyo Grande coach Lori Hollister said. “This is the oldest and perhaps one of the toughest junior tournaments to win in the nation right now.
“I am very happy for Eli and proud to be part of his success; he has certainly earned it.”
Whittle got to the championship after defeating Fabian Schaefer from Ventura 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (10-8), and Michael Genender from Los Angeles 7-6 (4), 6-3 on Saturday.
He also defeated Ethan Lopez from Oxnard 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 on Friday.
