Arroyo Grande High’s Mia Schachter set school records in the girls 200-yard individual medley (2 minutes, 7.70 seconds) and the 50 freestyle (24.10), winning both events to earn co-MVP honors at the Clovis West Invitational on Saturday and give the Eagles’ swimming team a sixth-place finish.
Both times automatically qualify Schachter for the CIF-Southern Section meet.
Corinne Haynes finished third in the 100 backstroke (1:02.38) and fourth in the 100 butterfly (1:01.55, a personal best).
Claren Ruth finished fifth in the 200 freestyle (2:04.75) and third in the 200 medley relay (1:54.99, CIF-automatic qualifier) along with Schach-ter, Haynes and Kelsey Docouto. Schachter, Ruth, Haynes and Morgan Clark placed third in the 400 freestyle relay (3:46.13, CIF-automatic qualifier).
Mission Prep baseball team swept
The Mission Prep baseball team collected just one hit, a Calvin Levisay single in the bottom of the seventh inning, in an 8-0 loss in game one of a doubleheader against St. Bonaventure.
In game two, the Royals (6-13) had five hits, including two from Joey Hall, but lost 8-3.
San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles athletes shine at Salinas meet
Ariel Becker won the girls long jump (17 feet, 1 inch) and the 300-meter hurdles (47.67 seconds) to lead the San Luis Obispo girls track team at the Bill Kearney Invitational.
Bridget Devaney won the shot put (35-5) and was second in the discus (126-6), and Micayla Rennick placed first in the 1,600 (5:16) for the Tigers girls.
Scott Allis ran a 22.93 to finish fourth in the boys 200 for San Luis Obispo.
For Paso Robles, Zander Souza broke a school record in the boys 1,600 with a time of 4:20.23.
In that same race, teammate Aidan Sarrell placed third (4:28.45) Matt Kwiat-kowski placed second in the 3,200 (9:54.80) for Paso Robles.
Arroyo Grande's Weinreich wins boys shot put at Mt. SAC Relays
The Eagles’ Garrett Weinreich placed first in the boys invitational shot put with a mark of 59-10 1⁄4 for the Arroyo Grande track team at the Mt. SAC Relays. He also finished fourth in the invitational discus after throwing 179-9.
Jackson Zimmerman cleared a personal best 6-6 in the invitational high jump to place fifth.
Nipomo players named for football all-star game
The first set of names for the FCA All-Star Football Classic were released, including nine players from the Nipomo football team.
Quarterback Chris Souza, running back Justin Springer, fullback Anthony Perez and offensive linemen Russell Moran and Jason Costa will be playing in the all-star game along with defensive linemen Brett Kimball and Chris Lemus, linebacker J.T. Wells and defensive back A.J. Campos.
The game features graduating players from San Luis Obispo County against players from Northern Santa Barbara County.
