Atascadero High’s Devin and Kyle Barber will be moving on in doubles to the state tennis tournament at Seal Beach next Friday after two wins at the CIF-Southern Section individual regionals on Friday at Cate School in Carpinteria.
The twins, who had earned a first-round bye, defeated the team of Nishanth Yamani and Jeremy Wacker of Viewpoint 6-4, 6-3 to move on to the third round.
They then took down Jake Yasjoor and Diego Villa of Chaminade 7-6, 2-6, 10-4 to earn a spot in the state tournament.
Depending on what seed they receive, the twins could earn an automatic berth into the round of 16.
Arroyo Grande had sophomores Eli Whittle and Sean Hollister competing in singles and both lost in the third round.
Whittle, with a first-round bye, beat Gabe Rappaport from Malibu 6-0, 6-3 in the second round. He then was upset by Christopher Grant of Santa Barbara 7-6 (7-0), 7-6 (7-0) in the third round for only his third loss in two seasons. His overall record now stands at 57-3.
Hollister also had a first-round bye. He went on to beat Kevin Bandar from Oaks Christian 5-7, 6-2, 10-5 in the second round, only to fall to Brett Buford from Calabasas 2-6, 0-6 in the third round. His record is 50-8.

After Keelan Willison blew the save in the top of the seventh inning, the Crusaders (12-4) earned the walk-off win in the first round of the CIF-Southern Section Division 7 playoffs when Taylor Brard stole home.
North County Christian led 4-2 in the top of the seventh inning. Willison struck out the first batter, then allowed an infield hit. After a strikeout, the real trouble started.
Willison allowed a single and then walked three straight batters to tie the game.
Another infield hit gave Lutheran the lead. With the bases loaded, they had the potential to score more before Daniel Katches tagged a player out at the plate on what would’ve been a wild pitch.
Down 5-4, Willison led off the bottom of the seventh with a double off the wall. Brard brought him home with an RBI single.
Brard was able to advance to third base on the play after an errant throw.
On a suicide squeeze play, Haustin Morrison missed the bunt, leaving Brard out to dry as he was 50 feet down the line already. But the Lutheran catcher threw it to third base and Brard immediately took off for home and scored the walk-off run.
Willison ended the game 2 for 3 with two runs scored and three stolen bases, and both Morrison and Jonathan Katches finished with a base hit and an RBI.
The Crusaders will either face Temecula Prep or Animo Leadership, a team that beat them last year in the playoffs but had to forfeit due to a pitcher throwing too many innings that week.
