The San Luis Obispo High boys volleyball team started its season with a dominant win at Nipomo on Tuesday night, sweeping the Titans 25-6, 25-9, 25-13.
The Tigers (1-0) are coming off of a 23-3 season in which they were undefeated in PAC 7 play and advanced to the quarterfinals of the CIF-Southern Section Division 2 playoffs.
To start this season, the Tigers were in the others-receiving-votes category in the top-10 divisional rankings.
Nick Butier led the Tigers with eight kills, and Keilan Meertens had 32 assists.
Morro Bay 3, Paso Robles 1
The Pirates (1-0) got plenty of help from Edward Griley and Marcus Zorovich in their season-opening win over the Bearcats (0-1), 25-18, 22-25, 25-14, 25-21.
Griley led Morro Bay in both kills and blocks, with 13 and seven, respectively. Zorovich added 10 kills and five blocks.
Noah Galicia contributed five kills, and Taylor Sutliff had three kills to go with a block.
St. Joseph 3, Mission Prep 0
The Royals got swept 25-18, 25-19, 25-17.
Matt Souchek was the main source of offense, providing four kills and one ace for the Royals.
Patrick Douglas had 10 digs, and Tanner Nelson tallied 11 assists for Mission Prep.
“Even though it was a loss, it was still a good performance for the first (match) of the season,” Mission Prep coach Devin Porr said.
Arroyo Grande 10, Santa Ynez 8
The defending PAC 7 champion Eagles (1-0), benefiting from a big win by sophomore star Eli Whittle, defeated the defending Los Padres League champion Pirates (0-1).
Arroyo Grande’s No. 1 in singles, Whittle was matched up against Miles Seeman, the two-year defending LPL champion, and won 6-3, 6-0, 6-1.
Fellow sophomore Sean Hollister, the Eagles’ No. 2 in singles, went 2-6, 6-1, 6-1.
The doubles teams of Evan Lange and Danny Williams and Jordan Haya-shi and Dominic Wefald both dropped their first sets only to win their next two.
Atascadero 11, Templeton 7
The Greyhounds’ Barber twins, Devin and Kyle, led the way in a season-opening win against Templeton.
Devin Barber won three sets, 6-0, 6-0, 6-1 in singles play, and Kyle Barber won 6-0, 6-1, 6-2 in his doubles matches with partner Zac Haskell.
Matt Murray was the top performer for Templeton (0-1), winning two singles matches 6-1, 6-1.
San Luis Obispo 407, Morro Bay 422
Adam Zakaria was the medalist with a 72, and helped San Luis Obispo (1-0) to a win in its season-opening dual against the Pirates (0-1) at Morro Bay Golf Club.
Doug Chesbro had the best score for Morro Bay, carding an 80.
