Arroyo Grande High kicker Garrett Owens was named to ESPN RISE’s All-America second team for juniors Friday.
Owens made 11 field goals this past season, including a 52-yarder in the CIF-Southern Section Western Division championship game, a 35-10 loss at Junipero Serra High in Gardena.
His 63 touchbacks this past season led the state and were third nationally, according to MaxPreps.com.
Owens’ previous honors this season included being named to MaxPreps’ all-state Division II second team regardless of class, and to Cal-Hi Sports’ all-state first team for juniors. He was also an all-Western Division and Tribune all-San Luis Obispo County first-team pick.

Owens was recently elevated to No. 3 in the national rankings at his position for the class of 2012 by Chris Sailer, a former UCLA kicker who’s renowned for evaluating college pros-pects. Sailer rates Owens as a five-star recruit and a “definite” Division I Bowl Subdivision-caliber player.
