Mission Prep runner Annie Mooney won the girls varsity 5K race at the Cal Poly Invitational, completing the Fairbanks Course in 19 minutes, 24.1 seconds Saturday.
Mooney’s winning time was more than 21 seconds ahead of runnerup Mackenzie Mills of Vintage High.
“It was kind of neat that we got to compete against Division’s 1 and 2 in one race,” Royals coach Leslie Monaco said.
Demitria Castañon finished 18th overall for Mission Prep, finishing in 21:15.3.
The Royals finished fifth of eight teams with 115 points. Mt. Carmel won the team title with 32 points.
On the boys side, Mission Prep’s Tony Lundberg finished in 17:55 and 38th place. Ethan Hopwood was the second Mission Prep finisher in 18:01.
The Royals were sixth out of 11 teams with 189 points. Mt. Carmel won the team title with 25 points.
North County Christian 30, Shandon 24
Trailing Shandon 16-14 at halftime, North County Christian posted 16 third-quarter points on their way to the victory. The rally consisted of two Keelan Willison touchdown passes, one to Tyler Roth and another to Daniel Katches.
Katches led North Country Christian with 129 yards on 10 catches, and Roth rushed for 174 yards on 22 carries.
For Shandon, Hector Rangal led the team with a team-high 129 yards rushing off 15 carries.
BOYS WATER POLO
Clovis 12, Morro Bay 3;Morro Bay 6; Pioneer Valley 5, OT
The Pirates got a game-winning goal from Tyler Fraser in overtime to beat Pioneer Valley and claim third place at the Santa Maria Tournament.
Mac Reinhart made a combined 18 saves for Morro Bay (3-16), while Zach Moss scored a goal in both games.
