Atascadero High’s Austin Kaiser shot a 3-over 75 in windy conditions in the CIF-Southern Section Individual Championships on Monday at La Purisima Golf Course in Lompoc, making the cut and qualifying for the CIF-SCGA Southern California High School Championships for the second time in three years.
“He did what he needed to do to qualify in those conditions,” Atascadero coach Sam DeRose said. “He hung in there. We kind of guestimated that 75 or 76 would make the cut, and he did it.”
Kaiser, a senior and the PAC 7 MVP, will continue his season June 3 at SCGA Golf Course in Murrieta.
Three other San Luis Obispo County golfers competed in the event. Nipomo’s Rory Doll shot a 78, Arroyo Grande’s Matt McAustin carded 80, and San Luis Obispo’s Joseph Zakaria finished at 81.
Never miss a local story.
Righetti’s Reilly McMahon also shot 3-over 75 and advanced.
“The PAC 7 performed well as a league to have five kids compete in the section finals,” DeRose said.
