The Arroyo Grande High girls basketball team got a game-high 18 points from Haley MacDonald in a 59-53 win over Sheldon of Sacramento at the Clovis West Tournament on Friday night in Fresno.
Arroyo Grande (2-0) started quickly, building a 10-point lead after the first quarter.
“It was a great effort from everyone tonight,” Arroyo Grande coach Dwight MacDonald said. “We put it all together and beat a very good team.”
Madi Ventura added 12 points, and Jenna Sverchek scored 11 for Arroyo Grande which will play traditional power Clovis West today in the tournament’s second day.

Atascadero 63, Templeton 22
Shannon Berwick led the Greyhounds with 22 points, and Atascadero outscored the Eagles 20-0 in the first quarter to advance to the championship game.
Alyssa Palma had 12 points, and Casey Mero had nine assists for Atascadero.
Katie Huapper led the Eagles with 11 points.
Garces 66, Mission Prep 45
Mission Prep’s Jenna Dunbar scored 17 points, and was 4 for 4 on 3-pointers, but Garces moved into the championship game. Ally Kershthold and Bri Harvey both scored 11 points for Mission Prep.
Nipomo 52, Coast Union 37
The Titans (1-2) advanced to the consolation championship by beating the Broncos (1-2).
Cami Castillo scored 14 points for Nipomo, which also got 12 from Tessa Underwood.
Tess Watson led Coast Union with a game-high 15 points, including four 3-pointers. Faye Watson added 11 points for the Broncos.
New Roads 53, North County Christian 41
North County Christian was outscored by 14 points in the fourth quarter after leading entering the fourth.
Caleb Katches led the Crusaders with 14 points and had 12 rebounds. Josh Feld scored 12 points for North County Christian and had a game-high 15 rebounds.
Oaks Christian 55, San Luis Obispo 42
San Luis Obispo’s Sean Mullen scored 16 points, and Joe Agbo had 12 points.
Dan Ross led Oaks Christian with 14 points, and Bryan Chass and Taylor Hange each had 12 points.
