The Paso Robles High boys water polo team took two of three games Saturday, claiming third place at the Conejo Classic in Thousand Oaks.
The Bearcats beat Granada Hills 12-8 behind Mitchell Iunker and Wyatt Spencer, who had three goals apiece. Mason Steiner had two goals, and Cy Quinn had seven saves to advance to the semifinal against Santa Ynez.
In a back-and-forth semifinal game, Santa Ynez won 10-8. Iunker had five goals, and Quinn had seven more saves.
In the third-place game against Exeter, the Bearcats won 9-8. Iunker had five goals, and Spencer had four goals, including the game-winner. Quinn played the whole game in goal, notching 15 saves, including a 5-meter penalty stop and two saves with 49 seconds left to preserve the win.
Pioneer Valley Tournament
Morro Bay place fifth, going 2-1 on the final day of the day.
The Pirates opened the day with a 9-5 loss to San Benito, but went on to beat Pioneer Valley 9-6 and St. Joseph 11-10 in the fifth-place game.
In Morro Bay’s bracket, there were four teams. Three teams finished pool play 2-1, and based on goal differential, Morro Bay ended up third in its pool and in the fifth-place game.
