The Arroyo Grande High boys water polo team took Malibu to sudden-death overtime Friday but fell 10-9 on the road.
The Eagles (0-2) trailed 4-3 at halftime and were down 8-5 with 2 1/2 minutes to play, coach Steven Allen said, but then rallied to tie the score and force overtime.
After finishing the two three-minute overtimes tied at 9, Arroyo Grande began sudden-death overtime with the ball. After failing to score, the Eagles then were called for a penalty and gave up a power-play goal that ended the game, Allen said.
Jack Alexander, Mikey Kullman and Josh Kwell scored two goals apiece for the Eagles. Goalie Jarod Swenson had six saves.
