The San Luis Obispo High School girls golf team won the PAC 8 Midseason Tournaments at the Blacklake Golf Course on Tuesday. The tournaments were split between two nine-hole courses: the par-34 “Oaks” and the par-36 “Lakes” in two separate events.
Kinsey McBryde of Arroyo Grande and Sarah Fouratt of Righetti co-medaled, each shooting a 37 on the Oaks course. Mission Prep’s lone golfer, Sydney Haughian, and San Luis Obispo’s Isabel Carpenter each carded a 40. Atascadero was led by Morgan Humphrey, who shot a 41, and Tess Lewohn, who had a 42. Paso Robles was paced by Mikayla Stone, who carded a 43.
San Luis Obispo won the team title with a 236 total, followed by Atascadero (241), Arroyo Grande (244), Paso Robles (246) and Righetti (260).
In the Lakes tournament, Fouratt medaled again, this time with an even-par 36. Carpenter was second with a 40, followed by Haughian and McBryde, each with a 41. Stone shot a 46, and Humphrey had a low of 48.
San Luis Obispo won with a score of 238, trailed by Arroyo Grande at 244. Atascadero was third (261), followed by Paso Robles (282), Righetti (284) and Pioneer Valley (308).
Cabrillo 254, Morro Bay 269
Cabrillo’s Baylee Gregory shot a 44 to medal on the front nine at the par-35 Morro Bay Golf Course. Taffy Ketchum had the low for Morro Bay (2-2) with a 45.
Santa Ynez 268, Nipomo 275
Brooke Cuzick of Nipomo medaled with a 39 on the back nine of the par-35 Monarch Dunes Golf Course. Brooke Panzardi carded a 53, and Carah Frank shot a 60 for the Titans (2-2), who take on Lompoc on Monday.
Atascadero 16, Pioneer Valley 2
Annaline Breytenbach swept 6-0, 6-0, 6-0 to lead the Greyhounds. The doubles all swept for Atascadero, including Courtney Basden and Sarah Wulff, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0. The tandem of Gabriella Diaz and Kacey Journey also swept 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, and the team of Grace Curtis and Sophia Lowe won 6-1, 6-0, 6-0. Atascadero improves to 10-2 overall and 4-1 in the PAC 8 and plays Arroyo Grande on Tuesday.
Arroyo Grande 12, San Luis Obispo 6
Delanie Dunkle swept 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, and Erica Egg won 6-2, 6-1, 6-0 for the Eagles. Joceline Ramirez won two out of three, 6-1, 2-6, 6-2, and the doubles team of Mary Waterman and Casey Lieberman also swept 6-4, 6-0, 6-3. Lily Bickmore and Christina Atherton won 6-4, 4-6, 4-6 for Arroyo Grande (10-0, 6-0 league).
San Luis Obispo’s Maddie Handy and Riley Quinn won two sets 6-3, 6-4, and the team of Maya Caminada and Amber Lee Clark also won a pair of sets 6-2, 6-4. Jenny Zacharia tacked on a set win at 6-2 for the Tigers.
The loss in San Luis Obispo’s first this year. The Tigers (8-1, 4-1 PAC 8) take on San Marcos on Friday.
Mission Prep 13, St. Joseph 5
Julia Wagner swept 7-5, 6-0, 6-0 to lead the Royals. Grace Cegelski won two out of three 2-6, 6-0, 6-0, and Avery Munster won a pair of sets 4-6, 6-0, 6-0 for Mission Prep (5-3, 3-3 PAC 8).
Templeton 15, Santa Maria 3
The Templeton doubles swept on the day. Bugg Zundel and partner Anna Anselmi won 6-1, 6-0, 6-0, Emily Ford and Quinn Chamblin won 6-1, 6-2, 6-1 and the team of Ashley Donahue and Mikayla Colwell won 6-1, 6-1, 6-1.
Mili Proft swept 6-0, 6-0, 6-0 for the Eagles (3-2, 2-2 LPL), who face Nipomo on Tuesday.
Templeton 12, Coast Union 6 (Wednesday)
Zundel and Anselmi won all three sets 6-1, 6-2, 6-0, and Donahue and Colwell swept 7-5, 6-1, 6-0 for the Eagles. For Coast Union, Michelle Campos, Annike Marthler and Zoe Markham each won two sets apiece, while the doubles team of of Lindy Ortize and Jazmine Kelleher also won two sets.
Arroyo Grande 3, Pioneer Valley 0
The Eagles stayed undefeated with a 25-13, 25-4, 25-13 win. Amber Martin had nine kills, Sam Oliver had eight kills and five aces and Ellie Engle added five aces.
Arroyo Grande (8-4, 5-0 PAC 8) plays at San Luis Obispo on Tuesday.
Paso Robles 3, Atascadero 1
The Bearcats dropped the first set 20-25 before winning the next three, 25-18, 25-15, 25-14. Gabby and Madison Morrison combined for 11 aces for Paso Robles. Madison had 11 kills and Kiara Gable added 10 kills. Madison Mitchell and Madison Warren each had three blocks for the Bearcats (12-4, 3-1 PAC 8).
For Atascadero (6-8, 2-3), Taylor Degnan and Stephanie Monson led the way with six kills apiece. Degnan added 11 digs, while Monson had two blocks. Next up for the Greyhounds is a home matchup Tuesday with Pioneer Valley.
Coast Union 3, Maricopa 0
The Broncos opened the league season with a 25-8, 25-4, 25-8 sweep. Karis Lawson had eight kills and three aces, and Hayley Zinn added four kills and 12 aces. Gigi Stoothoff chipped in six kills and seven aces for Coast Union, who will continue league play Tuesday at Cuyama Valley.
Nipomo 3, Morro Bay 0
The Titans had 12 aces as a team in a 25-20, 25-10, 27-25 win to improve to 4-1 in the Los Padres League. Hope Goodall had 10 digs, seven kills, three aces and a block, and Krissy Ramsey added five kills and three aces for Nipomo (6-3, 4-1 LPL). Nana Lemons had 20 digs, and Kylie Mendez recorded 19 assists.
BOYS WATER POLO
Morro Bay 14, St. Joseph 6
Levi Krull had four goals and both Josh Ward and Ricardo Volabra had three in a final tuneup before league play for the Pirates. Jackson Hymas had five saves in goal for Morro Bay, who will face Cabrillo on Wednesday to open league play.
