Justin Dhillon, Kaba Alkebulan, Steve Palacios and Joseph Bolous each scored to help Cal Poly’s men’s soccer dominate its home opener with a 4-1 rout of Northern Illinois on Friday night at Alex G. Spanos Stadium.
Kip Colvey assisted on the first two goals for the Mustangs (2-1), coming in the 10th and 24th minutes. Chase Minter assisted Palacios in the 25th minute, and Alkebulan assisted Bolous in the 90th minute.
Isaac Kannah scored in the 41st for Northern Illinois.
The Mustangs held a 21-10 advantage in shots, including a 9-3 margin in shots on goal.
Cal Poly goalkeeper Wade Hamilton had two saves.

Elise Krieghoff scored in the 40th minute, and Megan Abutin scored on an assist from former San Luis Obispo High standout Katarina Drake in the 82nd minute to give the Mustangs (2-2-0) a win over the host Spartans (1-3-0).
Alyssa Giannetti recorded a three-save shutout for the Mustangs, who were outshot 18-10 but earned their first shutout victory of the season.
Santa Monica 3, Cuesta 0; Victor Valley 3, Cuesta 0
The Cougars opened their season with a pair of home losses, falling 25-15, 25-16, 25-23 to Santa Monica and 25-23, 25-23, 25-20 to Victor Valley.
Cuesta’s Haley Anderson totaled 19 assists on the day and had 12 digs in the opener.
Against Santa Monica, Cuesta’s Whitney Meyer had six kills, and Gabby David and Jackie Gocobachi added five kills each. David had 14 digs and Tarryn Macon nine digs.
Against Victor Valley, Meyer had 11 kills, and Gocobachi added seven kills. David had 15 digs, Meyer 14 digs and Macon 12 digs.
