The Cuesta College baseball team gave up a combined nine runs in the second and third innings in a 10-7 loss to Pierce on Thursday in Woodland Hills.
The Cougars (5-12, 3-11 Western State Conference) got out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning after Miles Franklin hit a two-run home run, and Clayton Schuler had an RBI triple.
After giving up four runs in the second inning and five in the third, the Cougars narrowed the gap by scoring three runs on a two-run home run from David Belt and an RBI single from Nick Burnham.
Cougars rout Oxnard in softball
Leadoff batter Savannah Johnson was 4 for 4 with a double and four runs scored as the Cuesta softball team topped Oxnard 10-2.
Bre Ojala was 2 for 3 with two RBI, and Summer Best was 2 for 4 with a triple and an RBI for the Cougars (23-10, 10-2 WSC).
Nicole Johnson pitched five innings and gave up one earned run.
