Jonae Ervin scored 16 points, but the Cal Poly women’s basketball team’s season came to an end in the first round of the WNIT Thursday with an 82-59 road loss to the University of San Diego.
Ariana Elegado scored eight points, and drained one 3-pointer to tie the Cal Poly single-season record of 86 3-pointers.
Molly Schlemer and Hannah Gilbert each added six points for the Mustangs (18-14).
The Toreros hit 54 percent of their shots from the floor, while Cal Poly shot 36 percent.

Devon Lotito is still alive for the Mustangs in the 133-pound bracket after winning two of three matches.
In Lotito’s first match of the day, he lost a 2-1 decision against three-time national qualifier Shelton Mack of Pittsburgh.
Lotito beat Vincent Dellefave from Rutgers 6-1 in the first round of the consolation bracket and finished the day with a 9-5 decision over two-time qualifier Mack McGuire of Kent State.

Cuesta took advantage of five errors and six stolen bases to score 17 runs on nine hits in the second inning. Mikala Strum led the Cougars (19-9, 6-1 Western State Conference), going 3 for 4 with five RBI while Bre Ojala was 3 for 4 with three RBI. Nichole Johnson pitched three scoreless innings and had six strikeouts to earn the win.

The Cougars (5-15, 1-5 Western State Conference) gave up five hits and committed three errors in their loss. Nick Burnham was 2 for 4 with two singles. Tyler Skinner started on the mound, giving up two earned runs and two walks in five innings.
