After a rough second-half of the season, the Cuesta baseball team is heading to the postseason.
The Cougars defeated Ventura 10-8 in their regular-season finale Friday, clinching one of two playoff spots out of the Western State Conference Northern Division for next week’s regional playoffs.
The win marked the end of a three-game losing streak for Cuesta (23-13, 12-8 WSC), and the end of a second half of the season where the Cougars dropped nine of their past 13 games. That skid came after the Cougars reeled off 17 straight wins.
Against Ventura, the Cougars started early, scoring six runs through the first three innings to take a 6-3 lead. From there, the Cougars didn’t look back.
In the win, Josh Miller went 3 for 4 with three RBI, LaBronze Sanderson went 2 for 4 with two RBI and Michael Nieporte went 2 for 4 with an RBI.
UC Santa Barbara 4, Cal Poly 3
Alexa Lee, Jocelyn Davis, Jen Cornea and Kathryn Webb all lost to open singles play, and the Mustangs were knocked out of the Big West Championships at Indian Wells by UC Santa Barbara.
