The Cuesta College baseball team built a 5-2 lead after three innings and tacked one on in the ninth in its 6-4 win over Oxnard on Tuesday.
Philip Gerber made the start for Cuesta (9-6, 1-0 Western State Conference), going six innings with two strikeouts. John Tiedemann, a San Luis Obispo High graduate, had three strikeouts and one walk in two innings. Jared Levin picked up the save.
LeBronze Sanderson collected three hits and two RBI, and Darren Mullen’s only hit of the game was a two-run triple. Chris Lindmark and Max Duval both had two hits.
Cuesta softball teams falls at Santa Barbara
The Cuesta softball team (5-11, 0-1 WSC) managed four hits in a 4-1 loss at Santa Barbara.
Kelly Lockwood was 2 for 3 for Cuesta.
Cal Poly women's golf team finishes second
Freshman Taylor Yoshitake set a career best in the final round, carding a 70 to help the Cal Poly women’s golf team move past San Francisco for second place at the Fresno State Lexus Classic at the par-72 Copper River Country Club.
UC Davis won the team title with 893 strokes to 910 for Cal Poly. San Francisco was third at 913.
Yoshitake finished fifth overall with a 223, seven strokes behind medalist Katrina Hegge of San Francisco, in the two-day, 54-hole tournament.
The Mustangs had one other golfer place in the top 20 as Morgan Thomas tied for 18th at 229.
