The Cuesta College baseball team beat Riverside College 11-7 on Tuesday.
The Cougars (4-5) needed only two pitchers, Chris Rogers and Jared Levin, to earn the road victory. Rogers tossed five innings, giving up five runs, for the win, and Levin threw four innings in relief, allowing two runs while picking up the save.
Davey Schultz and Chirs Lindmark each had two hits for Cuesta, and Andrew Montanari’s only hit was a bases-clearing triple that blew the game open for the Cougars.
Cal Poly women's golf finishes ninth
The Cal Poly women’s golf team shot its best team round of the tournament, carding a 319 total, but finished ninth with 967 strokes at the Yorba Linda Country Club at Long Beach State’s 49er Golf Rush event.
Freshman Taylor Yoshitake finished 10th overall with a 16-over 232 total. Caitlin Farley was 18th for the Mustangs with a 237.
Long Beach State’s Simone Hoey was the individual medalist winner, with a 3-over 219. San Diego State topped Long Beach State 918-926 for the team title.
Cuesta splits softball doubleheader with Reedley
The Cuesta College softball team earned a split in a doubleheader against Reedley College, winning the first game 7-4 and losing the second game 3-2 in nine innings.
In the first game, the Cougars used a perfectly executed delayed steal to take a 3-2 lead. Cuesta then blew the game open with a four- run fifth inning to secure the win for Liz Isaak, who tossed a complete game.
In their second game, the Cougars had their chances. But they were called out at home plate on a squeeze and left the bases loaded in the seventh inning.
