The Cal Poly baseball team beat San Jose State 5-1 on Tuesday night at Baggett Stadium as Zack Zehner was 2 for 4 with a home run, double and two runs.
The Mustangs jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning after Zehner led off with a double and scored on a Ryan Drobny single. Tommy Pluschkell and Mark Mathias added RBI singles.
The Spartans (12-37) scored in the fourth inning on an RBI double before Zehner led off the sixth with his eighth home run of the season to put the game out of reach.
Jarred Zill earned his third win, pitching six innings with four strikeouts while Michael Gomez and Danny Zandona added three strikeouts each in relief.
Cal Poly (22-23) heads o UC Irvine for a crucial three-game series beginning as the Mustangs are two games back of the Anteaters, who are tied for first in the Big West Conference with UC Santa Barbara and Cal State Fullerton.
