Mustangs drop in baseball polls
The Cal Poly baseball team dropped in all five major polls for the first time this season as a result of this past weekend’s series loss at Long Beach State.
The Mustangs (36-7, 12-3 Big West) fell two spots in rankings by Baseball America (from two to four), the Collegiate Baseball (one to three), the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (two to four) and USA Today/ESPN (three to five). The Perfect Game poll has Cal Poly at No. 9 — a six-position drop from last week.
The 1-2 weekend marked the first series loss of the year for the Mustangs and their first two-game losing streak.
Virginia (37-8) is the top-ranked team in all five polls.
Pridham announces he has pro contract
Former Cal Poly men’s soccer standout Mackenzie Pridham announced via Twitter he signed his first professional contract with Minnesota United FC of the North American Soccer League.
“Signed my first pro contract! Thanks to everyone that has supported me!” the midfielder tweeted with mentions to the accounts of Minnesota United and Cal Poly athletics.
Pridham, the Mustangs’ career goals leader and two-time Big West Offensive Player of the Year, was selected in the fourth round of the Major League Soccer SuperDraft in January by the Vancouver Whitecaps.
