Cal Poly’s Diana George broke the Mustangs women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase record Friday at the Stanford Invitational, running the race in 10 minutes, 15.93 seconds en route to a fourth-place finish in her heat.
Leanne Fogg held the previous record with a time of 10:17.24 set in 2011.
Cal Poly’s Chris Frias set a school record in the men’s 10K with a 13th-place time in the Section 1 race at 28:45.6, breaking the mark set by Carmelo Rios at 28:52.04 in 1983.
Holli Arrieta finished sixth in Section 5 of the women’s 1,500 (4:30.7), and Rachel Bush finished eighth in Section 5 of the 5,000 (16:53.98) for the Mustangs.
At the Cal-Nevada Championships in San Diego, Clara Davis finished third in the women’s pole vault, clearing 12 feet, 5 1⁄2 inches. In the same event, Ferrin Peterson finished sixth (11-11 3⁄4), and Amy Loschiavo finished seventh (11-5 3⁄4).
At the San Francisco Distance Carnival, Clayton Hutchins finished fifth in the men’s 1,500 (3:49.37).
Cal Poly wins sand volleyball debut
The Cal Poly sand volleyball team edged Sacramento State 3-2 before falling by the same score to Boise State in the first two matches in program history at the Sacramento State Invitational.
Senior Jennifer Keddy and sophomore Katie Conry survived an opening-set loss to post a 20-22, 21-19, 15-11 win against Sacramento State, and defeated Boise State 21-18, 21-11.
Nicole Kessler and Megan Gross won their match against the Hornets 21-17, 21-19. Katie Walters and Hannah Schleis defeated their Boise State opponents 21-16, 21-18.
