Sophomore Madison Hirsch shot a 1-over 73 in the final round of the Anuenue Spring Break Classic at The Bay Course in Maui on Wednesday to finish in a tie for 14th and pace the Cal Poly women’s golf team to 11th place.
The Mustangs finished strong as a team, recording their strongest four-person score of the tournament with a 298 total Wednesday. Cal Poly’s final score of 921 was four strokes behind 10th place Long Beach State and three ahead of tournament host Hawaii.
Hirsch finished with a three-round score of 224 after shooting a 76 and 75 in the first two rounds, respectively, before her final-round 73.
Hawaii blanks Poly women’s tennis
The Mustangs dropped the doubles point and lost the first three singles matches to fall 4-0 at home against Hawaii.
Cal Poly (3-8, 0-4 Big West) led all three of the remaining matches, but Hawaii (9-7, 4-1) had already clinched the victory.
Jennifer Cornea, the No. 1 singles player for the Mustangs, dropped her first set 6-3 but came back to win the second 6-1. However, Cindy Nguyen took the third set in a tiebreaker, 7-6.
