Cal Poly senior Taylor Yoshitake became the seventh golfer in the 14-year history of the Mustangs’ women’s golf program to win individual honors in a tournament Sunday.
Yoshitake shot a 2-under 70 in the final round to share first place with Cal State Northridge’s Clariss Guce at the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate with a 3-under total of 213 at The Classic Club in Palm Desert.
Poly’s Krieghoff sets record in win
Cal Poly sophomore forward Elise Krieghoff set the Mustangs’ single-season goals record with her 16th goal Sunday night, breaking the mark with only 4:08 to play in the second overtime to lift Cal Poly to a thrilling 3-2 road win over Hawaii.
Megan Abutin scored the first two goals for Cal Poly.
Mustangs duo wins singles titles
Cal Poly freshmen women’s tennis players Emily Gibbens and Chanel Scudiero both won singles titles Sunday at the Saint Mary’s Invitational in Moraga.
In the White bracket consolation phase, Gibbens beat Sacramento State’s Deim Bulatovaite (6-2, 6-0) in the championship final.
In the Blue bracket consolation round, Scudiero topped Gonzaga’s Sissi Koehler for the division championship, 7-6(3), 6-0.
Slide continues for Poly men’s soccer
Matt LaGrassa scored an unassisted goal in the first half, but Cal Poly’s men’s soccer team fell 3-1 at Cal State Northridge on Sunday.
The Mustangs dropped to 8-6-0 overall and 1-3-0 in the Big West Conference.
Hawaii sweeps Cal Poly volleyball
Cal Poly’s volleyball team suffered a 25-17, 25-16, 25-13 loss at Hawaii late Saturday night, dropping the Mustangs to 8-9 overall and 2-2 in Big West play.
Cal Poly baseball gets commitment
Pitcher Jarred Zill of Capistrano Valley has committed to Cal Poly, according to the Los Angeles Times.
