Jaime Cano scored on a penalty kick early in the first half, and Cal State Fullerton’s men’s soccer team held on for a 1-0 upset win over host Cal Poly on Sunday in front of 1,208 fans at Alex G. Spanos Stadium.
Cal Poly fell to 8-4-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the Big West Conference despite a 16-14 edge in shots, including a 7-3 margin in shots on goal.
Cano scored in the 11th minute after Cal Poly defender Connor Drechsler was given a yellow card for taking down a Cal State Fullerton attacker inside the Cal Poly penalty area.
Mackenzie Pridham tallied four shots for the Mustangs, and Chase Minter had three shots.
Cal Poly goalkeeper Wade Hamilton made two saves.
Bryan Escalante recorded six saves for the Titans (4-6-0, 1-1-0).

Sophomore forward Elise Krieghoff scored twice to match Cal Poly’s single-season program goals record at 15, but the Mustangs lost to the visiting Anteaters in front of 438 fans at Spanos Stadium.
Sara Epps also scored for Cal Poly (5-7-0, 1-1-0).
Krieghoff and Sara Lancaster had one assist each for the Mustangs, who outshot the Anteaters (6-5-0, 1-1-0) by an 18-15 margin.
UC Irvine scored twice in each half, with goals from Zoya Farzaneh and Cami Privett in the first 13 minutes.
