Taken in the third round of this month’s Major League Baseball Draft, Cal Poly pitcher Chase Johnson has reportedly signed a contract to join the San Francisco Giants organization, which selected him 101st overall.
A 6-foot-3 hard-throwing reliever, Johnson posted a 2.31 ERA in 23 1⁄3 innings, striking out 21 and walking nine. He threw 4 1⁄3 scoreless innings in the Mustangs’ three-game run in the Los Angeles Regional this month.
Johnson received a signing bonus of $440,000, Baseball America Executive Editor Jim Callis said through his Twitter account Tuesday.
The value assigned to the pick by MLB was $510,000.
