Free-agent NFL linebacker and former Cal Poly football star Chris Gocong is reportedly making a visit to the St. Louis Rams this week.
Gocong, who missed all of last season with a ruptured Achilles’ tendon, is one of three veteran linebackers recently brought in by the Rams, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Gocong tried out at a rookie minicamp earlier this offseason for the team that drafted him in the third round in 2006, the Philadelphia Eagles, but the Eagles passed on the opportunity to sign him.
Gocong signed with the Cleveland Browns in 2010, racking up 70 tackles, 3 1⁄2 sacks and two forced fumbles in 2011.
In 2005, Gocong set an FCS record with 23 1⁄2 sacks in his senior season at Cal Poly, after which he became the second of three straight Buck Buchanan Award winners for FCS defensive player of the year for the Mustangs.
