Cal Poly designated hitter Brian Mundell has been named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American team by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.
Mundell led the Mustangs with 11 home runs and batted .265 during Cal Poly’s historic 40-win season.
Mundell’s 11 home runs broke the school’s Division I record for home runs hit by a freshman. His blast to centerfield at UCLA’s Jackie Robinson Stadium helped the Mustangs to their first NCAA Regional win in a 9-2 victory over San Diego.
Mundell finished second on the team with 42 RBI, and produced 16 multi-hit games.
Four out of the past seven years a Cal Poly has earned a freshman All-America team selection. The previous three were reliever Reed Reilly (2012), second baseman Matt Jensen (2009), and designated hitter/outfielder Luke Yoder (2007).
