Ariana Elegado blocked a Pacific 3-point shot attempt as time expired, and the Cal Poly women’s basketball team held on for a 62-59 Big West Conference win on the road Thursday over the Tigers.
The Mustangs (13-8, 7-3 Big West Conference) remain tied with Hawaii for second place but more importantly, have swept the season series against the Tigers (18-4, 8-2).
Cal Poly trailed for most of the game and by as many as 12 points in the first half. The Mustangs outrebounded Pacific 47-37 and had twice as many second chance points at 14 to 7.
Elegado scored a game-high 15 points and had four assists. Molly Schlemer had 12 points and six rebounds, and Nikol Allison came off the bench to record 10 points and nine rebounds for Cal Poly.
Ashley Wakefield had 14 points and seven rebounds for Pacific. Besides the two losses to Cal Poly, the Tigers’ only other losses are at No. 4 Stanford and at Florida.
Gena Johnson had 12 points for the Tigers and Erica McKenzie, whose 3-point attempt was blocked at the end by Elegado, ended with 11 points and four steals.
