Cal Poly’s Andre Dome lost two close sets to third-seeded Eric Quigley of Kentucky on Wednesday in the opening round at the NCAA Singles Championships at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex as the University of Georgia.
Dome, an Arroyo Grande High graduate and the Big West Conference player of the year, fell 7-5, 6-4 in his first ever NCAA individual singles match.
Dome, ranked 41st, concludes the singles season 22-8 and was 16-5 in dual matches. Quigley improved to 48-6 and has 19 victories over ranked players.
Today, Dome will be making his second straight NCAA Doubles Championship appearance when he and teammate Matthew Fawcett, ranked 64th in the latest ITA poll, meet Mississippi’s Jonas Lutjen and Nik Scholtz, who are ranked 13th in the lastest ITA poll. They were 17-4 in dual matches this season, while Dome and Fawcett are 11-1 with two wins over ranked teams.
