Paul Politi connected on a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the 11th inning to give the UC Davis baseball team a 5-4 walk-off victory over Cal Poly in the opener of a three-game series Friday at Davis.
The loss snapped the Mustangs’ four-game winning streak and dropped them to 26-18 on the year and 9-7 in the Big West.
Cal Poly was trailing 4-2 in the top of the ninth when Jimmy Allen hit a two-run single to tie the score and force extra innings. Allen finished 2 for 5 with three RBI and is now 4 for 6 with nine RBI with the bases loaded this season.
Mike Miller was 3 for 6 with two runs scored, and Chris Hoo added two singles for the Mustangs.

Joey Wagman gave up four runs on eight hits over 62⁄3 innings but received a no-decision thanks to Cal Poly’s late rally.
Freshman Reed Reilly gave up one run on seven hits in 22⁄3 innings of relief in the loss.

Big West Multi-Events
Cal Poly’s Whitney Sisler is in fifth place in the women’s heptathlon after the first day of events at UC Irvine.
Sisler totaled 3,080 points over four events and tallied the second-best mark in the high jump at 5 feet, 9 3⁄4 inches.
Teammate Calynn Stanford is in 11th place with 2,439 points.
In the men’s decathlon, the Mustangs’ Devin Bennett is in eighth place with 3,348 points. Bennett ran the 400 in 52.18 seconds to highlight his day-one performance.
Both the heptathlon and decathlon will finish today. The rest of the Big West championships will run next Friday and Saturday at UC Irvine.
