The Cal Poly women’s golf team moved into third place Monday at the Big West Conference Championship on the second day of competition at Tijeras Creek Golf Club.
The Mustangs started the day in fourth.
Morgan Thomas shot a 1-over 73 to pace Cal Poly, while teammates Taylor Yoshitake, Alicia Weber and Asia Adell all carded 74s.
The Mustangs, who have a 19-over 595 total for 36 holes, had a second-day 295, a five-stroke improvement from the first round.
UC Davis leads with a 1-under 575 total. Today’s final round will begin at 7:30 a.m.
Hansen in takes third for UC Davis
Morro Bay High grad Matt Hansen, who’s now a sophomore golfer at UC Davis, finished third this past weekend at the BYU-hosted 18-team PING Cougar Classic at Riverside Country Club.
Hansen finished with a 9-under, three-round 207 total, and tied his season-low by shooting a final-round 68.
He was two strokes behind the tournament winner.
Mooney sets meet record
Mission Prep senior Annie Mooney won the girls 1,600-meter run this past weekend at the Russell Cup, breaking the all-time meet record with a time of 5 minutes, 2.35 seconds.
Her performance broke the old mark of 5:04.12.
Coming off a two-and-a-half month break for a leg injury, Templeton native Topher Ingalls had a season-best 12th-place finish this past weekend at the 15th round of the AMA Monster Energy Supercross Series before more than 50,000 at Qwest Field.
Ingalls, 21, has been a pro for three years and rides a Honda CRF250R.
Later this week, he’s expected compete in an AMA event in Salt Lake City.
