The Cal Poly football team climbed to No. 13 in both the Sports Network media and coaches Football Championship Subdivision national rankings on Monday.
Cal Poly (4-2), coming off a 50-37 victory over Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va. this past weekend, will travel to face Southern Utah (2-4) in its Great West Conference opener on Saturday. It will complete a five-game road trip for the Mustangs.
The Mustangs had been No. 16 in the coaches poll and No. 14 in the media voting. Appalachian State (5-0) remained No. 1 in both.

The Cal Poly men’s golf team rose from 11th place to sixth in the second round of the Purple and Red Invitational hosted by Weber State and Utah at par-72 Valley View Golf Course.
The Mustangs shot a 292 in the morning round and a 286 in the afternoon to post a four-person, 36-hole total of 578. Cal Poly’s Geoff Gonzalez carded a 73 in the morning and a 66 later in the day for a team-best 139 aggregate, moving into an individual fifth-place tie with three others.
Washington State is atop the 16-team field with a 17-under-par 559 total. The final 18 holes will be played this morning.
City to the Sea run results
Oscar Peña of King City won the men’s 5K at the City to the Sea run from San Luis Obispo to Shell Beach on Sunday in 15 minutes, 40 seconds. The women’s 5K was won by San Luis Obispo’s Kira Abercromby in 20:31.
Jason Cannon of Nipomo had the top men’s time in the half-marathon at 1 hour, 2 minutes and 10 seconds, while Kimberly Williams of San Rafael had the top time among women at 1:20:53.
About 1,300 people ran in the event.
