Cuesta names Athletes of the Month
Cuesta College named sophomore men’s water polo standout Lawrence Bardelli and women’s soccer freshman forward Ruby Navarro-Ortiz as its athletes of the month.
Bardelli, coming off a freshman year in which he led the state with 107 goals, leads the Cougars (8-7) again with 25 early in the season.
He scored a team-high four goals in an upset of No. 3 Long Beach earlier this season and also has contributed 21 steals and five assists on the year. Cuesta is ranked No. 7 in the state poll.
Navarro-Ortiz has scored seven goals in nine matches for the Cougars (5-3-1), including three multiple goal performances.
She has also contributed an assist to give her 15 points on the season. Only one Cuesta player has had more points in an entire season since 1996.
